MONTKOSE.—Information was received at about 8.15 A.M. on the 5th January that a large steamer was ashore abreast of Kinnaber, about three miles north of Montrose. A strong gale from S. by E.

was blowing, with rain, end there was a heavy sea on the bar. The No. 1 Lifeboat Mincing Lane was promptly launched, and reached the vessel, which was the s.s. Loch Ness, of Dundee, bound from Libau to Leith with a cargo of grain and hemp. The heavy seas were breaking right over her, and her crew of 18 men were therefore taken into the Life-boat and safely landed. The steamer floated again after the greater part of her cargo had been jettisoned..
