The S.S. Ben Avon

LONGHOPE, ORKNEY.—During a terrific gale from W. by S. at about 10 A.M. on the 20th January, a steamer was observed apparently in distress. The Dickinson Edleston Life-boat went to her assistance, and found that she was the s.s. Ben Avon, of Aberdeen, bound from Liverpool to Dundee in ballast. She had lost her propeller, and had anchored in a dangerous position. The Life-boat returned ashore, and telegraphed to Thurso for a steamtug, which proceeded to the vessel and towed her to Longhope..
