Conqueror

The smack, Conqueror, of and for Newburgh, from Sunderland, with coal, in attempting to enter the port at midnight on the 24th November, went ashore at the south side of the entrance to the harbour. A small steam-tug went to her assistance, but could not reach her, owing to the heavy sea, until after she had stranded.

She then succeeded in getting a rope from, the smack, but had to throw it off to save herself from also being driven ashore.

The crew of the Alexander Charles and William Aird Life-boat were then summoned.

The boat was launched, and succeeded in rescuing -the vessel's crew, consisting of two men. The smack became a total wreck..
