Pride of the Isles

GORLESTON.—At 11.30 P.M., on the 4th May, guns were fired by the St. Nicholas Lightship, in response to which the Lifeboat Leicester immediately put off and proceeded to the Scroby Sand. The weather at the time was thick, with rain; the wind was not heavy, but there was a considerable swell. It was found that the schooner Pride of the Isles, of Bridport, had gone ashore on the south part of the sand.

She had lost her rudder, and as she had more than four feet of water in her hold, her crew, consisting of 6 men, were taken into the Life-boat and safely landed. The vessel rolled over and sank almost immediately after the Life-boat had left her..
