Violet and Evelyn
GORLESTON.—On the 13th November signals of distress were seen in a N.E.
direction, and rockets were fired from the St. Nicholas Lightship, in response to which the Life-boat Leicester proceeded out, and found the Violet trawling smack had been in collision with the schooner Evelyn, of Fraserburgh. The wind was blowing hard from N.N.E., with considerable sea, and the crew of the Violet had abandoned their vessel, thinking she would founder, and had gone on board the Evelyn. The smack had already, on the same night, met with an accident, and was leaking badly. The Life-boat slipped the schooner's chain, and after clearing the two vessels, put the Violet's crew on board their own craft, remained by her until daylight, and then assisted her into the harbour..
