Escape

HARTLEPOOL.—On the 28th November, at about 1.50 A.M., the ketch Escape, of Goole, was observed making for Hartlepool, and showing signals of distress.

The sea being very high, the No. 3 Lifeboat John Clay Barlow put off and went towards her; but before she could be reached, she had drifted on to Middleton beach. It was found that she had 5 feet of water in her hold, and her crew, consisting of 4 men, and 3 other persons who were on board her, were therefore taken into the Life-boat and brought safely ashore. The ketch became a total wreck..
