Resolutions Passed at the Annual Meeting for 1878

THOMAS CHAPMAN, ESQ., F.R.S., V.P., CHAIRMAN OF THE INSTITUTION, IN THE CHAIR.

1.—Moved by the CHAIRMAN :— 1.—That the following Noblemen and Gentlemen be the Officers of the Institution for the current year:—(vide next page for this list).

2.—Moved by Admiral SIR RICHARD COL- LINSON, K.C.B., Deputy Master of the Trinity House.

Seconded by HUGH LINDSAY ANTROBUS, Esq.

2.—That the Report now read be adopted, printed, and circulated.

3.—Moved by Vice-Admiral SIR J. WALTER TARLETON, K.C.B.

Seconded by EDWARD BIRKBECK, Esq., V.P.

3.—That this Meeting regards with peculiar satisfaction the continued pro- sperity which marks the career of the NATIONAL LIFE-BOAT INSTITUTION, whose benign work is now in full operation on the whole coasts of the United Kingdom.

It therefore engages afresh—in view of these encouraging results—to use every effort to sustain and perpetuate the original great and national object of the Institution—the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck.

4.—Moved by Rear-Admiral AUGUSTUS PHILLIMORE, Admiral Superintendent of Naval Reserves.

Seconded by The Hon. T. -C. AGAR- ROBARTES.

4.—That this Meeting views with great satisfaction the continued brave and ever- active exertions of the Coxswains and Crews of the Life-boats, through whose persevering and skilful services 841 Lives were Saved from various Shipwrecks during the storms of last winter.

5.—Moved by JAMES GTLAISHES, Esq., F.R.S." Seconded by CHARLES DIBDIN, Esq., Son. Sec. Civil Service Life-boat fund.

5.—That this Meeting offers its best thanks to the Committee of Management, and to the Officers of the Institution, for their able and active administration of its extensive affairs.

Also to the Honorary Local Committees and Secretaries of the several Branches of the Institution, for their continued earnest and active co-operation.

6.—Moved by GEORGE LYALL, Esq., V.P., Deputy Chairman, late Governor of the Bank of England.

6.—That the best thanks of this Meet- ing be given to THOMAS CHAPMAN, Esq., F.R.S., V.P., Chairman, for so ably pre- siding over the fifty-fourth Annual Meeting of the ROYAL NATIONAL LIFE-BOAT INSTI- TUTION, and for his continued valuable and earnest co-operation.
