On the 31st December the Life- boat Elizabeth Moore Garden was launched, and proceeded to the assistance of the smack Mirre, stranded on the rocks under Summerlies Point. A heavy ground sea had set in after the Mirre grounded, which made the task of getting the vessel afloat again very difficult.
