Mystic, of Newport

On the 2nd Jan., 1873, the Princess of Wales Life-boat at this station, in answer to signals of distress, proceeded to the brig Mystic, of Newport, which she leached shortly before midnight.

Previous efforts had been made by pilots to reach her in their own boats, which had failed owing to the heavy south-west gale which was blowing and the dangerous position of the Mystic outside the east end of the Breakwater.
