Urgent

At daybreak on the 24th October, 1872, the Urgent, a barge, becoming unnavigable when off Jury's Gap, hoisted signals of distress, and commenced firing minute guns. It was blowing hard from the S.S.W., and a heavy sea was running; so much so that the steam-tug could render no assistance.

The Arthur Frederick Life-boat with in- finite difficulty succeeded in removing all on board from the distressed vessel, which afterwards went down at her anchors..
