Venus of Preston

The schooner Venus, of Preston, whilst entering the port on the 20th October, late on the tide, during a strong westerly wind, struck on the Horse Bank, on which a good deal of sea was then running. The Life-boat Wakefield was then taken out to the ves- sel, and, at the request of the crew of the schooner, remained alongside until they got out of their perilous position..
