The Screw Steamer Alexandra, of London
Early on the morning of the 9th February, a rocket was seen from | the end of the Breakwater, thrown in an easterly direction, denoting a vessel re- quiring assistance. As the weather was comparatively fine at the time the pilots' and harbour boats were ordered out; but soon afterwards a light was seen in the broken water, and thereupon the Life- boat Princess of Wales went off, and was met by the pilots returning, who reported that the screw-steamer Alexandra, of Lon- don, had gone on the Clipera Rocks, and that they could not approach her on ac- count of the heavy seas breaking there.
The Life-boat quickly proceeded to the spot, and succeeded, with some difficulty, in rescuing the shipwrecked men, 23 in number.
