Vigilant, of Hayle

On the same day the schooner Vigilant, of Hayle, was seen in distress during bad weather, and in a heavy sea, on the western spit of Hayle Bar. The Oxford University life-boat Isis stationed at that port was launched, and succeeded in rescuing the vessel's crew of 5 men. The schooner soon after- wards became a total wreck. Great skill and courage were shown by the gallant coxswain and crew of the life-boat in rendering this service, which was per- formed while the weather was intensely dark, and while a heavy sea was rolling on the bar..
