Saint Areta

Intelligence was re- ceived here on the 13th November, that a brigantine was in a very dangerous posi- tion near Carmarthen Pier and the Cefn Sidan Sands, and she was afterwards seen to be heading northwards, and to be near the breakers. The life-boat City of Man- chester was at once launched, and pro- ceeded in the direction of the vessel through a heavy sea. Before she could be reached the crew of 8 men had taken to their own boat, and were ob- served to be making for the Laugharne Sands. They were followed by the life- boat, into which they were taken, and brought to the Ferryside all safe. Their vessel, which became a total wreck, was the Spanish brigantine Saint Areta, bound from Santander to Swansea with copper.
