The Screw Steamer Viking of Dundee

Early on the morn- ing of the 1st October, during a strong wind from S.S.E., and ha very thick weather, signals of distress were observed off a dan- gerous part of the coast, about a mile and a half from this place, and near the village of Broadsea. The Havelock life-boat was there- upon promptly launched and proceeded to the spot, when it was found that the screw- steamer Viking, of Dundee, bound to that port from Archangel, with a cargo of flax, had got ashore amongst the rocks. Fortu- nately, the life-boat was the means of saving 7 of the wrecked crew, the remainder being rescued by means of another boat and the rocket apparatus..
