Doddington, of Dumfries

On the 4th March, the schooner Doddtngtan, of Dumfries, was obliged, in consequence of the severity of the weather, to ran for Ayr Harbour, when she struck on the Nicholas Bock, This rock is about four hundred yards from the south pier, and is covered with the tide.

About, midnight, the crew of 2 men, by the direction of the master, came on shore in the small boat to obtain assistance to get the vessel off leaving only the master on board. In the meantime it came on to blow very hard, and the pilot-boat was unable to poll off to the vessel. As the captain was in imminent danger, the life- boat Glasgow Workman was launched, went out to the schooner, and happily succeeded in saving him a few minutes before the vessel capsized and became a total wreck.
