Two French Vessels -Augustine & La Jeune Erneste
On the 15th December, during a heavy S.S.E. gale, two French vessels, mistaking this harbour for that of Portsmouth, struck on the sands at East [ Looe and West Looe respectively. The ' Manley Wood life-boat was soon launched and on her way to to the wrecks. The first ! proved to be the lugger Augustine, of Port L'Abbe; and the life-boat brought her and i her crew of 4 men safely into harbour. The life-boat also went to the assistance of the second vessel, La Jeune Erneste, of Bor- deaux, but found her abandoned and full of water..
