Chase, of Shields

On the 1st Jan- uary, 1867, the brig .Chase, of Shields, was observed near this place with signals of distress flying. The life-boat Parses was conveyed along shore, and launched abreast of the vessel, which had grounded upon Horsey Beach. After some difficulty, the life-boat succeeded in taking off 5 of the crew, the remaining 3 men were rescued by means of the rocket-apparatus.
