On the 4th February the smack Leader, of Harwich, was wrecked off Thorpeness in a very heavy sea. The Ips- wich life-boat was soon launched and taken alongside the vessel. All the crew had abandoned her except the master, and had been picked up by a large yawl. Owing to the heavy sea, the life-boat was unable to get alongside the smack. The master was, however, hauled on board by means of a rope made fast round his body, and was safely landed..
