Victoria

On the evening of the 3rd October, a heavy gale blowing from the east, and a very high sea on the bar, a vessel was seen running for this harbour.

The Teigrimouth life-boat was immediately despatched to her assistance; but before it reached her, the vessel struck on the " Sprat" Sandbank, and held on for two hours, with the sea sweeping over her.

She subsequently beat off' and got into the harbour, accompanied by the life-boat. She proved to be the schooner Victoria, bound from Newcastle to Teignmouth..
