On the 20th Octo- ber at midnight, during a strong gale with heavy sea, the barge Henry Everest, of Rochester, was driven ashore off Thorpeness. The Thorpe life-boat was speedily launched, and proceeded to her aid, taking off her crew of 4 men, and landing them in safety. The cost of this boat had been recently presented to the NATIONAL LIFEBOAT INSTITUTION by the town of Ipswich. This was her first service, and her crew reported highly of her behaviour on the occasion.
