Thomas and Jane

On the 1st January, 1861 the sloop Thomas and Jane, of Dundee carried away her main boom, and having nearly four feet of water in her hold, and the master and crew being quite exhausted hoisted a signal of distress, which was seen from Lossiemouth, and the life-boat stationed there was at once launched and proceeded to her aid. On boarding her the master gave up charge to the coxswain of the life- boat, who succeeded in running the sloop safely into the small harbour of Burghead, a few miles to the west of Lossiemouth.
