On the 5th January, the Whitburn fishing-boats were caught in a gale, and had to leave their lines and run for the shore, which, with some difficulty, all of them but one succeeded in reaching. The crew of that boat had become utterly exhausted, and were drifting fast towards the rocks, where they must all have perished, when the life-boat proceeded to their aid through a high surf, and brought them in safety to the shore.
