A Norwegian Barque Alecto

At midnight on the 23rd April, 1859, the Norwegian barque Alecto ran ashore two miles north of Win- terton; her mainmast was soon hanging over her side, and the seas breaking over her.

The Winterton life-boat was quickly drawn to the spot by a large number of men- on her transporting carriage, and succeeded in reaching the vessel, and taking off her crew, 9 in number, landing them in safety at Win- terton.
